I tried and failed to do this a couple years back, but this time I really need to get rid of some stuff. I'll list everything I intend to sell here first (and I may add new things from time to time, so check back often) - after a month or so everything will be dumped onto Amazon.com Marketplace, and anything that isn't gone by April or May will probably be donated to the UMBC Anime Society to be raffled off.

I don't normally comment on anything political here, but I've been watching the Shirley Sherrod situation unfold, and it has me completely livid.

So, as far as I can tell, this is the sequence of events:

1) The NAACP passes a resolution denouncing the Tea Party as "racist".
2) In response, some blogger within the Tea Party cuts up a video of a speech made by Sherrod to make it LOOK like she is racist, when in fact she is talking about the dangers of racism and how she overcame it.
3) The edited video goes viral, and some Washington official panics and forces Sherrod to pull over and submit her resignation in the middle of the street, ruining her life. And the one who edited the video doesn't even fucking care about what happens to her.

So, FOR NO FUCKING GOOD REASON, a woman's life has been ruined. Even with this morning's talk of reconsidering calling for her to resign, there's no going back for her - she's already under a spotlight she did nothing to deserve being under, forever to be labeled something she's not, and nothing is going to change that. And all for what?

I don't know about you, but I think it's really damn scary that one lunatic can edit a video to make anyone in the world sound like something they're not and make them lose their job over it.

Also, via jnik, a better summary and analysis than I could write.

So there's something I want to buy off the Japanese PSN (PlayStation Network) store, but I can't directly pay Sony for Japanese points and I neglected to order points from the usual sources in time to have a code for this weekend. Is anyone reading this currently in Japan and able to run to the store to pick up some points for me (I need at least 3000 yen worth) in exchange for a PayPal payment of equivalent value?

Thanks in advance :3

I'm mostly posting this for myself since I'm at work and need a reminder to read through it all myself at home.

A month or so back, there was a posting on MetaFilter from a user who had two friends from Russia come to the US on some sort of work visa. The entire situation made him believe the two girls had been pulled into a human trafficking attempt and asked MetaFilter for help in making sure the girls were safe.

The original post: Ask MetaFilter: Help me help my friend in DC.
A commentary thread that ran parallel: MetaTalk: The kindness of strangers

In the end, the girls ended up safe in NYC, after which all directly involved parties laid low. An intermediate thread was created by someone not directly involved, which was quickly closed: MetaTalk: Please, let's just donate to the Give That Girl a Massage Fund

A couple of weeks ago, a final update was posted, noting the girls have been returned to Russia: MetaTalk: Update on K & S

So something I forgot to mention that was totally off the wall:

In the early evening of either Thursday or Friday (I'm forgetting which day it happened already), Tony, Kevin, Enoch, and I had decided to check out the Apple store - one of those crazy all-glass-walls dealies where even the floors and the stairwell in the middle were completely transparent. While we were browsing, a 40-something white male walks up to me and asks if I was Korean. I shook my head to the negative, so he guessed Chinese next (correctly), and asked if I spoke any Chinese. I'm trying to back away at this point, but he starts attempting to speak Mandarin himself (he definitely knew what he was saying, but it was so badly accented and I was in enough of a hurry to get the hell away that I didn't catch anything he said).

I did get away, though the guy stuck around, and kept doing oddball things like clearing tables off so he could set up his own laptop and whatnot from the two to three bags of stuff he was carrying with him. I'm sure the Apple store employees got sick of cleaning up after him after a while...

I'll be finishing the PAX journal shortly (there's really only one entry left since we didn't go to the con at all on Sunday), but I had to preserve this little random exchange that happened over Twitter this afternoon before I forgot it happened:
